Automotive Drivers Help in Conversion to LED Bulbs in Cars

Diodes Inc. has extended its family of automotive light emitting diode (LED) drivers that help the conversion of LED bulbs into next-generation automobiles.

Much like other lighting markets, LED technology is displacing conventional bulbs in the car from external lighting such as side markets, puddle lighting and sill plates to internal lighting such as the dome, ambient lights, instrument clusters and button backlighting.

The BCR4xxUQ series provides a pre-set current output without the need for any external components and delivers adjustable constant current between 10 mA and 350 mA. The devices are industry-standard SOT26 and low-profile DFN2020 package options. The devices include negative temperature coefficient that lowers LED driver current as the internal temperature rises protecting and extending the life of the LED bulb.

Diodes said the devices can be used to drive larger strings of LEDs while providing sufficient protection from transients in a 12 V automotive supply system.
