ON Semi Backs Thread Networking Protocol

21 May 2015

ON Semiconductor has joined the Thread Group consortium, an industry organization pushing the Thread low-power wireless mesh networking protocol. It is designed to connect hundreds of devices to each other within the home and directly to the cloud.

Backers of Thread include: ARM, Freescale Semiconductor, Google’s Nest Labs, Samsung Electronics, Silicon Labs, and others.

Ryan Cameron, vice president of industrial and timing products at ON Semiconductor, says through a statement that joining Thread is part of the company’s plan to stay at the forefront of Internet of Things (IoT) development in relation to the digital home.

“Working together with other members, we will be able to realize the group’s principal goal of making it possible to connect and control electronic systems within people’s living spaces in a straightforward, reliable and energy-efficient manner,” Cameron says.
