The world’s largest tradeshow, CES 2022, is coming in January and the hype for the latest gadgets is already beginning.
One of the obligatory consumer electronics areas that always garners interest from those attending the show is what new TVs will appear. Last year, the show was dominated by organic light emitting diode (OLED) televisions with 4K being the largest volume on display, but 8K and micro-LED TVs also made a big showing for the first time.
The big Korean electronics giants Samsung and LG Electronics will no doubt be presenting new TVs featuring their latest technologies.
Reports indicate Samsung is working on new display technologies that combine its OLED technology with quantum dots, which is an emerging display that provides richer colors and a better viewing experience. Samsung said it was working on a so-called QD-OLED TV previously and expects that it will be announced sometime next year.
Additionally, Samsung will make these TVs initially in the 55 inch and 65 inch varieties. It is highly likely Samsung will showcase these TVs at CES 2022.
During last year's CES, LG introduced its first rollable OLED TV, which can hide away inside a piece of furniture when not in use, along with its first mini-LED TVs. This year, another rollable TV is highly likely as the company just showed off one of its wares at the most recent NFT Now.
Chinese electronics giant TCL also had a host of TVs on display last year, including its own rollable OLED that could be hidden away. In recent months, the company has also been rolling out mini-LED TVs, including one that was awarded with a CES 2022 innovation award honoree. This is likely what will be showcased at CES 2022 from the company, but another rollable is also likely to make its debut as the industry moves to more foldable and flexible form factors.
The other major consumer electronics companies — Sony, Hisense, Panasonic, Vizio and more — will more than likely be displaying their latest products as well as a number of 8K innovations.
CES 2022 takes place in Las Vegas on Jan. 5-8.
