Smart home vendor Kwikset has unveiled two Z-wave long range (ZWLR) smart locks offering up to 250 unique user codes and S2 security encryption to protect against unauthorized access.
The smart lock introduction comes after more than 100 devices were rolled out for ZWLR in 2024 as the internet of things (IoT) protocol ramps up in deployment.
Called the HomeConnect 918 and HomeConnect 620, the ZWLR protocol allows for more flexibility in smart home installations as the communications protocol offers a greater range than standard Z-Wave. This means that those in commercial properties or multi-dwelling buildings can potentially use these smart locks due to the long range.
The 918 smart lock offers faster response times and improved battery life for both residential and commercial properties while the HomeConnect 620 is upgraded with ZWLR technology with similar security encryption.
Both smart locks include Kwikset’s SmartKey security technology that protects against break-in techniques as well as allows homeowners to rekey locks in seconds.
