Top Five USB-C Hubs on Amazon for the Newest MacBook

14 September 2017

I am a semi-proud owner of the newest, 2016 MacBook Pro. After a two-week long struggle with the Apple Geniuses trying to fix my old MacBook Pro, I had to give up hope and shell out a hefty amount of money for the newest MacBook Pro. Don’t get me wrong, I love it very much. The screen is bright and clear, the speakers are crazy loud and it is incredibly thin, light and fast. If you’re in the market for a new MacBook Pro, I would highly suggest this computer.

But MacBook Pro has one downfall, other than the price tag: the USB-C plug. The newest MacBook Pro has two USB-C plugs and no other plugs. I don’t have any electronics that are USB-C compatible, and I know I’m not the only one put into this position. Supposedly USB-C is the “future of technology,” but for now I feel like it is a marketing ploy to make customers buy more Apple products. Apple also got rid of the HDMI port and SD card slot. This is frustrating because I am an amateur photographer and plugging in my SD card is a requirement.

By eliminating these ports, Apple is forcing its customers to buy a hub. Here is the other kicker: the adapters that Apple sells are expensive and they have mediocre reviews. The most basic adapter costs $19.00 and has only one USB port. If you wanted to plug in more than one device, an HDMI cable or SD card, you’re going to have to shell out $69.00 or more for the advanced Apple adapters. As I’ve traveled through the adventure of trying to find the right adapter, I have found what I believe are the top five USB-C adapters currently on the market.

1) Ebasy USB C to USB A 3.0 OTG Adapter/ C Type USB HubThe Ebasy hub (Amazon)The Ebasy hub (Amazon)

This hub is one of the cheapest options out there, at $9.99 on Amazon. This is a two pack, so each hub comes to five dollars each. If you don’t need to plug in an HDMI cord or an SD card, this adapter is the way to go. It only has a USB port, so you can only plug one device at a time. The Ebasy adapters have 62 reviews, 94% five-star ratings, 6% four-star ratings. If you’re just looking for a simple adapter to plug in one USB device that won’t break the bank, this adapter is for you.

This hub is $39.99 on Amazon. It has 40 reviews and 100% of those reviews are five stars. This hub has two USB 3.0 ports, an SD and Micro SD card slot and a USB-C charging port. This port allows you to plug in multiple devices. It also has a USB-C port so you can also charge your computer while you have the other devices plugged in. There is one downfall to this hub; it doesn’t have an HDMI port.

3) ANTOPM USB-C Hub Multiport Type-C Hub AdapterThe ANTOPM hub (Amazon)The ANTOPM hub (Amazon)

This hub is $39.99 on Amazon. It has 165 reviews and 99% of those reviews are five stars. This port is similar to the Bobalaly hub, it also doesn’t have an HDMI port. The ANTOPM hub has two USB 3.0 ports, a USB Type-C charging port, an SD card slot, and a Micro SD card slot. This port can transfer data up to 5 Gbps. This port can charge your MacBook Pro while other devices are plugged in. It also has a year warranty.

4) BESTHING USB-C 3.1 Hub

The BESTHING hub (Amazon)The BESTHING hub (Amazon)At $48.99, this is a more expensive option, but it is also one of the adapters that offer the most ports. It has 37 reviews and 100% of them are 5-star reviews. This hub has one USB-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, a 4k HDMI port and SD/Micro SD card slots. This adapter allows you to charge your computer while you are using it. It can transfer data at up to 5 Gbps. The HDMI port extends or mirrors the computer’s screen.

5) Hhusali USB-C 3.1 Hub/Adapter

This is also a more expensive option, at $49.99 on Amazon, but it has every port you might need. It has Hhusali hub (Amazon)Hhusali hub (Amazon)a USB-C charging port, 3 USB 3.0 ports, an SD memory card slot, a 4k HDMI adapter, and a Mini SD memory card slot. It has 64 reviews and 98% of them are five-star ratings and 2% are four-star ratings. This is good if you are going to have more than one USB device plugged in at one time. This is the thoroughbred of all the hubs I’ve looked at on Amazon.

While researching all of these adapters, these were the ones that impressed me the most. There are so many options for a USB-C hub it can be incredibly overwhelming. There are twenty pages of hubs on Amazon alone. I hope that this list helps you on your search for the perfect USB-C hub!
