Cadence Design Systems Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire system analysis supplier BETA CAE Systems International AG for $1.24 billion.
The move is another major electronic design automation (EDA) deal to start 2024 following Synopsys’ multi-billion-dollar agreement to buy simulation and analysis vendor Ansys.
The acquisition will allow Cadence to enter the structural analysis sector of system analysis, which is the largest segment in the market. Cadence already has a presence in electromagnetics, electrothermal and computational fluid dynamics solutions.
“Cadence entered the multiphysics space several years ago through organic innovation and acquisitions,” said Anirudh Devgan, president and CEO, Cadence. “This strategic acquisition reaffirms our commitment to continued growth in this critical domain. Combining our computational software expertise with BETA CAE’s rich technology and talent will enable us to offer a more comprehensive portfolio to customers, while opening significant new opportunities for Cadence by tapping into the structural analysis segment.”
Cadence said these technologies are increasingly important in automotive with the growth in electrification and the shift toward electric vehicles.
BETA CAE’s products include pre- and post-processing products for standard, mechanical and structural simulation and multiphysics analysis. Additionally, the company has simulation, process, data and resource management solutions.
The core business is in the automotive vertical sector with deals with Formula One racing, global automotive OEMs like General Motors, Honda Motors, Stellantis, Renault, Volvo and more. It also has ties to the aerospace, industrial and healthcare industries.
