Synopsys has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Ansys, a maker of simulation and analysis, to enhance Synopsys’ electronic design automation (EDA) portfolio.
Synopsys said the trend to integrate artificial intelligence (AI), silicon proliferation and software-defined systems will require more compute performance. The capabilities of Ansys will allow Synopsys to integrate silicon to systems approaches to maximize R&D teams, Synopsys said.
The two companies have previously worked together to combine their software options for design challenges. The combination of the portfolio will drive innovation including those outside of the semiconductor industry like automotive, aerospace and industrial. These are areas Ansys already has a presence in, Synopsys said.
"For more than 50 years, Ansys has enabled customers to design, develop and deliver cutting-edge products that are limited only by imagination,” said Ajei Gopal, president and CEO of Ansys. “By joining forces with Synopsys, we will amplify our joint efforts to drive new levels of customer innovation. This transformative combination brings together each company's highly complementary capabilities to meet the evolving needs of today's engineers and give them unprecedented insight into the performance of their products.”
