Chamberlain Group has introduced what it says is a cross between a video doorbell and a garage keypad to allow homeowners the ability to view and control anyone that opens or enters a garage.
Called the myQ Smart Garage, the video keypad contains a camera as well as a keypad. This means users can see whoever approaches the garage through an app and can allow kids or other family members to enter the garage remotely without using a garage door.
According to Chamberlain, more than 70% of homes in the U.S. with attached garages use the garage door as the primary entry point. Unlike a video doorbell that only lets users monitor the home, the smart garage device monitors who comes in and who goes out as well as allows homeowners to let others in remotely. Users can also give personalized pin codes to dog walkers, service providers or friends.
"Over the past 10 years, millions of homes have added a video doorbell to their front door, letting homeowners see and interact with visitors," said Jackie Lorenty, executive VP of Chamberlain Group's Residential Services & International. "However, in most homes, family members don't enter through the front door, they enter through the garage door. The Smart Garage Video Keypad provides peace of mind for your real ‘front door’ with continuous monitoring and secure access control."
The smart garage device can make calls just like a video doorbell as well and can access the stream and communicate with others using a smartphone.
The myQ Smart Garage includes:
- Built-in camera to detect motion
- 160° field of view
- Artificial intelligence edge support
- Person detection
- Video storage
- Wi-Fi compatible
