The Xchime is a new “smart” video doorbell that allows you to answer the door from anywhere. Launched recently on Indiegogo, the device is already fully funded; first units are expected to ship in August 2017.
The device also adds some convenience and security features. Not sure if you forgot to shut the garage door? A second Xchime unit in the garage allows a user to view door status; an optional add-on accessory allows you to open or close it via mobile app. Smart light bulbs can also be integrated for remote on or off, and to turn on for security when motion is detected.
According to the company, the Xchime staff includes engineers with backgrounds from Motorola and Qualcomm; they put their experience in real-time communications to solve the problem of lag time typical of other video doorbells.
Xchime features include:
- HD video (1080p)
- Two-way audio
- Video live-view and communication
- Latency (lag)-free streaming
- Night vision
- Wide-view angle
- Cloud recording
- Wide operating temperature range (-40F to 150F)
- Dual power supply (16-24VAC & 12-24VDC)
