It is estimated that 23 million Americans have had a package stolen from a mailbox or from their front porch.
With online ordering set for high growth in the coming years, these so-called “porch pirates” are set to rise in conjunction.
Amazon is taking steps to prevent package theft by introducing Key for Garage, a new service that allows Amazon Prime members to get deliveries in their garage using the Key Smart Garage Kit.
Customers that want to use the service select “in-garage delivery” at checkout and the packages are delivered to their garage. Customers can check the status of their garage door in the Key by Amazon app and remotely open and close it.
Key for Garage is made possible by integrating the Key Smart Garage Kit with Chamberlain Group’s myQ-connected technology. The myQ smart garage hub lets users add connectivity to their existing garage door opener. Users can also buy a myQ-connected Chamberlain or LiftMaster Wi-Fi garage door opener to see their garage via the Amazon Cloud Cam-based livestream camera or view clips of entries including deliveries.
This smart home technology enables consumers to receive packages while away from home, confident that the packages won't be stolen from the front porch.
