Video: Lightweight data cables from Harbour Industries take flight

30 July 2020

The demand for lighter weight, high-capacity aerospace communication cable has been met by Harbour Industries. DataMaster cables are manufactured with a proprietary fluoropolymer insulation to push the envelope on weight. By introducing air into closed cell conductor insulation, Harbour reduced the weight of cables by 10% while achieving enhanced crush resistance.

Harbour's four-conductor "Quadrax" constructions offer stable electrical performance supporting 1000 base T Ethernet and Cat 5e performance over defined distances. Lightweight and small in size, these cables are designed for high speed airborne data applications. Construction includes silver plated copper and silver plated copper alloy conductors with silver or tin plated copper braids and features include easy termination and non-shrinkback insulation.

DataMaster Aero, AeroBit and AeroFit cables are ideal for a wide range of high-speed Ethernet applications. These small, lightweight, easy-to-install cables offer exceptional mechanical and electrical performance characteristics. Highly durable AeroBit cables reduce crosstalk and eliminate the need for individual pair shielding, making them a perfect match for a wide range of demanding data applications. The flexible construction of the AeroFit is suitable for routing in tight space applications.

AeroBit 8, an aerospace-grade Category 8 cable, offers data rate of 2 GHz, complies with cable standard ANSI/TIA 568 Category 8 Channel and supports signal speeds up to 40 Gbs at cable lengths of 28 to 32 m. Applications include in-flight entertainment systems, in-flight connectivity systems, cabin management systems, avionic networks, digital video systems and satellite communications.
