Video: Maker creates an Arduino-powered automatic fishing pole

09 December 2019

Fishing is a sport that everyone can enjoy, both young and old. But people with disabilities who cannot cast or reel in a fishing line have no way of enjoying the sport.

Youtuber MrTeslonian was asked to create an automatic fishing pole for just this very reason. The maker used an Arduino board, a number of motors and a spring-loaded mechanism in the design of the fishing pole.

The device uses Wi-Fi to take commands from a smartphone or a computer. As the fishing pole receives a signal, the pole automatically pulls back and tension is added to the spring through a winch. This tension is released with a servo-actuated system and the fishing line is reeled in using a small gear motor.

In the video, MrTeslonian discusses the system and how it works, leading to a demonstration of the automatic fishing pole and its auto casting and reeling feature.
