Microchip Technology Inc. has introduced two new solutions to accelerate the use of USB Type-C with power delivery (PD).

The USB705x family enables fast device charging and introduces power delivery implementations called HostFlexing and PDBalancing. The chip is a standalone USB Type-C PD controller that simplifies the implementation of the charging functionality of basic USB Type-C PD. Its applications include rear seat charging in vehicles for portable equipment to public charging stations.

The USB705x family combines native support for USB Type-C PD with 5 Gbps data rates, making it applicable for docks, PC monitors and automotive infotainment, Microchip said.

Different products inside the series. The USB7050 device supports three PD-enabled upstream and downstream USB Type-C ports, while the USB7056 provides just one upstream port along with five traditional Type-A downstream ports. New hubs also support driver assistance systems (ADAS) applications available on all mobile handsets, allowing a phone's graphical user interface to be displayed on the vehicle’s screen while simultaneously charging the device.
