Joining the likes of Motional for robotaxi service in Las Vegas, Nevada, Zoox, the Amazon-owned autonomous vehicle arm, has started its driverless ride-hailing service.
The service will begin at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), one of the busiest airports in the world, where riders can be picked up and dropped off at terminals.
“As we continue to modernize LAS, we have an opportunity to help shape how emerging technologies can be integrated within a complex airport environment,” James Chrisley, Clark County director of aviation, said in a statement. “The introduction of autonomous service is an important first step in understanding how this technology can operate alongside the many modes of transportation that serve our airport today.”
Zoox previously launched services in San Francisco, California; Austin, Texas; Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; and Los Angeles, California.
Expansion after investigation
The expansion of Zoox came after the robotaxi vendor came under investigation by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for two separate accidents, both involving the vehicles braking suddenly and being rear-ended by motorcycles
But after being cleared, the company ramped up its robotaxi testing and deployment.
The road to Zoox deploying robotaxis in Las Vegas began in 2023 when the company was approved to test on public roads in the city carrying only Zoox employees. It then grew the loop it was allowed to test from about a mile loop to five miles. Then in 2025, Zoox was granted interim authority for free-ride phase and public passenger service by the Nevada Transportation Authority. This was limited to Strip-adjacent spots like Area 15, Topgolf and Resorts World.
In August of 2026, Zoox was among a handful of robotaxi vendors to be approved to deploy robotaxis in Las Vegas.
Other vendors that were approved include Tesla, Waymo and Aviari. Tesla already operates its tunnel shuttle service in Las Vegas but these are driven by human drivers.
It is very likely that Las Vegas will see these vendors expand into the city in the coming months.
