The race to 5G is officially on as Samsung Electronics has unveiled its pricing on the S10 5G smartphone and the rate plan for the enhanced service.
Samsung first unveiled its initial 5G smartphone earlier this year and revealed that in the U.S. it would be initially available as a Verizon exclusive with the expectation that it would eventually be available to other carriers soon after. The S10 5G will first be available in South Korea where the 512 GB model will go for about $1,360 and the 256 GB model for about $1,230.
As far as the data plan, Samsung will charge roughly $50 to $110 per month for data but not for unlimited usage. It is unknown how much data is included in the plan.
South Korea has been rapidly developing its initial 5G rollout with Ericsson being chosen by KT Corp., formerly Korea Telecom, for its commercial nationwide launch of 5G services and Samsung and KT announcing they had achieved 1 Gbps speed over its 5G network. The 5G network has been on the air in South Korea since December of last year as operators have worked to get the network core and radio solutions up and running for introduction.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be available for purchase in South Korea starting on April 5.
