The Trump administration’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) launched a new 6G project that will unite partner governments to advance the next generation of wireless communication.
Dubbed the Call to Action for 6G Leadership and Security, the initiative is a follow-up to the “Winning the 6G Race” Presidential Memorandum to identify national security, foreign policy and economic issues as they relates to the 6G standard.
The 20 partner governments span Europe, the Indo-Pacific and the Western Hemisphere with these governments pledging to strengthen cooperation on 6G over the next 12 months and beyond.
The initiative will focus on:
- Security
- Interoperability
- Resilience
Additionally, the project recognizes that AI will be central to the development and operation of secure 6G networks in the U.S. and in partner countries.
“The Call to Action for 6G Leadership and Security reflects an unprecedented level of international coordination on the future of communications technology,” said Arielle Roth, assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information and NTIA administrator. “Today’s action recognizes that 6G will be dramatically different from 5G, and that advancing U.S. and allied leadership requires a dramatically different playbook.”
Roth added that working with partners now will ensure that networks reflect a shared security interest, strengthen competitiveness and drive innovation.
