As light emitting diode (LED) lighting has become pervasive in the market, different manufacturers have been experimenting with new ways to differentiate products that have become obligatory in the home and industrial space.
Some vendors such as Osram are working on human centric lighting in order to improve how workers operate on the job, while others are working on creating a new class of vintage LEDs to mimic old world style.
Philips Lighting is jumping into the mix with its own line of newly launched giant filament LED bulbs: one that is a vintage style and the other with a more modern design.
The lighting is part of a series of suspended ceiling lamps that fit into the home for an industrial, rustic style. The smoky gray, giant LED bulb comes with a thin single vertical filament, while the deco LED giant vintage range combines a giant LED bulb with an intricate, swirling filament for a different ambient feeling.
The giant LEDs are dimmable and come with an accompanying suspension cord. Twin ranges with two different looks are available — the vintage range and modern range. The decorative lighting comes in three shapes: the Globe, Teardrop and Tubular design. The cord sockets have been designed to match the look of each shape and the bulbs can be mounted alone or hung in groups.
The bulbs have a 13-year life span, or about 15,000 hours, with the modern range having a color temperature of 4,000 Kelvin in an E27 fitting and 270 lumens and the vintage range delivers 2,000 Kelvin in an E27 fitting and 470 lumens.
The vintage giant LED bulbs will be available in Europe beginning in May of this year priced at 49.99 euros. The modern giant LED bulbs will be available in Europe beginning in July of this year priced at 39.99 euros.
