According to the company, the new device is a rugged smartphone, geared toward athletes, outdoor enthusiasts and hard-working parents. Constructed with military-grade materials, it’s shatter-, water- and dust-resistant. Its metal frame and bumper protect against shock, abrasion, tilting and twisting, and its back cover texture allows for a secure grip.
A built-in intelligent interface called Bixby learns user behaviors to help get things done. It also offers the option for users to learn more about what it “sees” in its viewfinder, and can identify landmarks, translate foreign languages or shop for products online.
The durable and expansive screen, with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, protects the 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. The advanced 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera and 8MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera are designed to take bright, sharp photos even in low-light conditions.
The device also features a defense-grade mobile security platform, Samsung Knox, with biometric features such as fingerprint and iris scanners.
The S8 represents the fifth generation for the Galaxy Active product line, and the latest Samsung product to be 5G Evolution capable.
