Next-generation Intelligence Amplification for a Luxury Smartphone

30 May 2017

Alan Turing finally has a phone designed just for him.

The early 20th century English mathematician, who is widely seen as the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence and was portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the 2014 film The Imitation Game, will likely be on your mind every time you access the human-enhanced concierge service and digital assistant, “Sir ALAN,” incorporated into the Turing Phone Appassionato.

Developed by Turing Robotic Industries, the device is an Android 7.0-based smartphone featuring 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage, a Samsung 2K AMOLED 5.5-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 system on a chip with quad core 2.35 gigahertz and an integrated Sony IMX378 camera. It’s also made with Liquidmorphium, an amorphous alloy more durable than steel and titanium, and features a diamond-like-carbon coating that provides a high-tech ceramic feel and scratch-resistant surface.

According to Turing CEO Syl Chao, Sir ALAN represents a next-generation step ahead in terms of intelligence amplification. “Think about the last time you asked a purely computer-driven phone intelligence feature to assist you with something, and its response was either a list of Internet search results, or something completely off base,” Chao says. “Utilizing Sir ALAN, the Turing Phone Appassionato will incorporate human intelligence, which will reference previous consumer preferences as well as personal idiosyncrasies only a human would interpret intelligently.”

That means optimizing trips, suggesting activities based on social popularity, securing reservations, mapping driving routes that account for traffic, reporting weather conditions, managing paperwork — like expense reports — and even providing advanced legal, HR assistance and business services.

A just-announced partnership with China state-owned telecommunications distribution company Potevio will ensure the distribution of 750,000 Turning Phone Appassionato GX8 models throughout China over 12 months beginning in fall 2017. As part of the estimated $1 billion deal, Turning Phone flagship retail stores will also be established in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the three largest cities in China.

The device is targeted to the high-to-premium marketshare, and will sell for US $1,599 when introduced later this year.
