Nvidia Corp. has rolled out a virtual reality system and graphics card program designed to deliver an immersive VR gaming experience for gamers.
Unveiled at this week’s 2016 Consumer Electronic Show (CES), the GeForce GTX VR Ready program is aimed at minimizing the confusion regarding which equipment is necessary to play the range of VR games and applications that are increasingly coming onto the market.
Nvidia says in order to meet the rigid performance demands of virtual reality, it requires seven times the graphics processing power of traditional 3D games and applications for framerates above 90 frames per second (fps) for two simultaneous images (one per eye). Nvidia’s systems is powered by its graphics processor units (GPUs) and based on its Maxwell graphics architecture that was built with virtual reality in mind. The platform also provides support for Nvidia’s Multi-Res Shading, which boosts performance by up to 50% for increased image quality and reduced latency.
Nvidia is working with game partners in order to bring the VR experience to PCs and add-in cards including Alienware, Maingear and MSI Pan America. Other gaming partners are expected to also be added as VR continues to grow.
