ON Semiconductor and Transphorm are partnering on a series of co-branded gallium nitride (GaN)-based power semiconductors targeted at increasing the efficiency of switching power supplies and other low-power applications.
The co-branded power chips expands a previous partnership between the two companies that included a GaN packaged power transistor for power applications for the industrial, computing, telecom and networking markets.
The co-branded 600 V GaN cascode transistors, the NTP8G202N and NTP8G206N, are offered in an optimized TO-220 package for integration with existing circuit board manufacturing capabilities. The duo is also offering a 240 W reference design board for customers to implement and evaluate GaN cascode transistors into their power designs. ON said the board provides a smaller footprint and better efficiency than power supplies using a traditional controller.
