An autonomous monowheel robot designed for real-world patrols has been developed by a startup from Estonia.
The 1ROLLO security robot from Rollo Robotics autonomously patrols industrial sites and campuses, navigating preset routes while continuously scanning its surroundings on a single wide wheel.

The makers of 1ROLLO suggest that the autonomous monowheel security robot is capable of autonomously surveilling a number of sites in place of human patrols.
Unlike conventional four-wheeled security robots, the 43-inch tall and 100 lb 1ROLLO balances on a single 24-inch wheel using a gyroscopic stabilization system. Meanwhile, a high-speed internal flywheel and sensor-driven control software continuously adjust the robot's balance, enabling stable movement, sharp turns and operation on rough terrain.
Capable of traveling at speeds of up to 19 mph, the 1ROLLO is powered by a battery that delivers up to 8 hours of operation, and it features an IP65-rated enclosure that allows for reliable operation in rain, dust and temperatures that range from -20° C to 55° C.
Equipped with a 360° vision system that relies on computer vision and edge AI to monitor its surroundings in real time, the 1ROLLO can detect people, vehicles, open doors and other objects. When unusual activity is detected, the robot sends instant alerts to a cloud-based fleet management platform via 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi, which allows operators to access live video, communicate through the robot’s integrated microphone and speaker, and dispatch security personnel.
According to the company, 1ROLLO will eventually be offered through a subscription-based service in 2027.
