Skydio has introduced a new drone dock for enterprise applications such as mapping of construction sites, security patrols in sensitive areas and for emergency first responders.

The Skydio 2 Dock is a self-contained, weatherproof, charging base station for the Skydio 2 drone that allows for persistent operations.

Skydio said existing solutions are massively complex, expensive and impractical and most drones aren’t smart enough for autonomous operations, requiring a human pilot. The Skydio 2 Dock can fit into a suitcase and can be set up in minutes. It also contains software to accomplish complex tasks.

The potential for persistent drone operation means that these devices may work constantly in the background. Additionally, with the development of beyond the visual line of site (BVLOS) — where drones autonomously travel out of visual range from operators — new opportunities and use cases may emerge where drones in constant flight could benefit a number of new markets, Skydio said.
