E-commerce giant Amazon is opening its second drone delivery location, this time in Tolleson, Arizona.

Amazon initially started drone operations — called Prime Air — in California, then stopped testing later on, and then began delivering prescription medications at College Station, Texas.

Prime Air will be applicable to those users in Tolleson who can purchase an eligible item weighing five pounds or less. At the drone location, Amazon’s MK30 unmanned aerial systems (UAS) will be deployed through a fulfillment center allowing for delivery in under an hour, Amazon said.

The drone has U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for operations to users and includes beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS) technology as well as on-board detect and avoid systems. This allows it to travel beyond where operators can see the drone to deliver packages but have safety measures in place to avoid accidents.

With BVLOS, Prime Air can deliver to users in the West Valley Phoenix metro area of Arizona and can have more than 50,000 items delivered including:

  • Pharmacy
  • Household products
  • Beauty items
  • Office/tech supplies
