The best robots from CES 2024

10 January 2024

Probably one of the most popular aspects of the annual CES show, be it virtual or in person, is the vast assortment of robots making their debut each year. CES 2024 is no different than in years past, with a range of robots playing pet sitter to robotic vacuums capable of identifying mysterious stains on the floor.

Follow along with Electronics360 to see some of the robots making their CES debut this year.

Kepler

A series of general purpose humanoid robots has been introduced at CES 2024. The 5 ft, 10 inch, 187 lb robots from Kepler Exploration Robot Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of humanoid robots, are capable of navigating complex terrains, avoiding obstacles, lifting and carrying heavy loads and more.

Kepler is eyeing the series of humanoid robots for applications such as manufacturing, logistics, education, research, smart inspection and outdoor work.

LG

The robot that seems to be attracting the most attention — particularly ahead of the tradeshow — is LG Electronics’ so-called zero-labor smart home robot.

According to LG, the small, two-legged robot relies on artificial intelligence (AI) to move autonomously. In addition to performing surveillance and environmental monitoring tasks in the home, the zero-labor robot can perform household chores, serve as a companion and pet sit the family dog by allowing users to see their pets while they are at work. The robot is also able to communicate with household members thanks to features like voice and image recognition as well as natural language processing.

Doosan Robotics

Doosan Robotics, a manufacturer of industrial robots, has debuted its recycling solution, dubbed Oscar the Sorter, at CES 2024.

According to the company, Oscar the Sorter autonomously sorts a variety of objects — paper cups and plastic containers — and moves them to designated receptacles. In addition to recycling, Oscar the Sorter could be used to sort orders for pick up.

Outfitted with a robotic arm-like gripper, Oscar the Sorter applies AI machine learning, based on the software platform “Dart Suite,” which controls collaborative robots without coding.

Doosan’s Oscar the Sorter is a CES 2024 Innovation Award Honoree in the Artificial Intelligence category.

ALUX

A robot, capable of teaching children to code has made its way to CES 2024.

VINU from ALUX is a standalone, LCD-embedded, unplugged coding robot designed to teach children coding skills. According to ALUX, VINU features 400 independent applications in addition to seven implemented sensors, thereby enabling users to explore the basics of coding.

ALUX’s VINU is a CES 2024 Innovation Award Honoree in the Robotics category. For more information on VINU, watch the accompanying video that appears courtesy of ALUX.

HL Mando

Mobility technology specialist HL Mando is introducing its self-parking robot, aptly named Parkie, to attendees at CES 2024.

The robot, which resembles a skateboard, reportedly employs Level 4 autonomous driving technology. Further, the bot is capable of recognizing objects — like tires and license plates — and independently assessing parking spaces and vacant spots.

At just 3.5 inches high, Parkie can lead most cars to vacant parking spots. HL Mando suggests that Parkie will free up as much as 30% of parking spaces in congested parking lots.

Parkie is the winner of the Best Innovation Award at CES 2024.

Samsung

Tech giant Samsung is introducing its brand-new robot vacuum cleaner and mop to attendees at CES 2024.

According to the company, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo is an AI-powered combination vacuum and mop robot cleaner. This latest iteration of the previously introduced Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ reportedly features more sophisticated AI object recognition, which enables the new model to identify even more objects, thus resulting in more precise driving.

Further, the new combo robot can recognize both space and stains, offering an improved and more accurate cleaning experience. Once it detects a stain, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo returns to the clean station to heat the mop pads via high-temperature steam and water. Once heated, the robot returns to the stain and applies the spinning mops at 170 RPM to scrub away even hardened stains.

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo is also capable of determining and categorizing mapped areas and will automatically suggest designating 'no-go zones' — such as the bathroom, balcony or entrance. Likewise, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo can also detect floor type via a feature dubbed AI Floor Detect, which can distinguish between carpeting and hard wood floors and then apply the appropriate cleaning settings.

Keep checking back with Electronics360 for the latest coverage of the CES 2024 tradeshow.

The tradeshow is being held Tuesday, January 9, 2024, through Friday, January 12, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
