Synopsys certified for Intel’s 16 nm foundry process

18 July 2023

Synopsys Inc.’s full-stack artificial intelligence (AI)-driven electronic design automation technology has been certified for Intel Foundry Services (IFS) 16 nm semiconductor manufacturing process.

The move comes as another EDA vendor, Siemens Digital Industries Software, was also certified for the 16 nm process.

Synopsys Foundation intellectual property (IP) and interface IP have been optimized for the IFS technology allows engineers to design semiconductors for mobile, RF, internet of things (IoT), consumer, storage, military, aerospace and government applications.

Synopsys is part of IFS’ accelerator alliance that allows engineers to foster assured chip design and production on advanced processes. Additionally, both companies support the U.S. Department of Defense’s implementation of the microelectronics commons, part of the CHIPS and Science Act that provides direct pathways to commercialization of semiconductors.

The EDA software allows for custom flows for more efficient routing and optimization of smaller chip area while reducing power consumption. The customized design flow delivers productivity accelerators and enables faster time to successful silicon for users. Intel’s 16 nm technology is a gateway to FinFET technology from planar nodes for higher performance with fewer masks and simpler back-end design rules.
