Video: This multi-foldable concept may be the future of smartphones

21 May 2021

Samsung Display has unveiled a range of new organic light emitting diode (OLED) panel options that could potentially be the future of laptops, televisions and smartphones.

Introduced at this week’s Society for Information Displays 2021 conference, Samsung showcased a large foldable smartphone called S-foldable with a bi-fold design that opens to a maximum screen size of 7.2 in.

SamMobile got first glimpse of the foldable smartphone as part of the virtual conference.

In the video, users are shown folding the prototype smartphone to fit into a pocket and form around a base to allow for easy viewing of entertainment. The prototype is part of Samsung’s better life through OLED campaign that includes a variety of foldable, slidable and portable displays for smartphones, laptops, TVs and more.

While most foldable phones are in the concept stage, this along with the Royole foldable phone that was introduced a few years ago, shows what smartphones in the next few years may look like commercially.
