Plug and play extension kit for Raspberry Pi camera

11 March 2021

Thine Electronics Inc. has introduced a plug and play kit for Raspberry Pi systems that extends the distance between the camera and a Raspberry Pi single board computer up to 20 meters.

Using a low-cost LAN cable, the kit no longer restricts makers, engineers and entrepreneurs to the 15 to 20 cm distance that is provided in the Raspberry Pi camera modules. Even at 20 meters, the kit allows the exact same performance as if connected close to the Raspberry Pi computer through the standard cable.

The kit is plug and play and detects which Raspberry Pi camera that is connected and automatically sets the register settings to transport the video data over increased distances to the single board computer. The kit provides every component needed to increase the distance between the Raspberry Pi camera and the single board computer, including a 2 m LAN cable and all fastening hardware. Both old and new Raspberry Pi cameras are supported by the kit, including the V1.3, V2 and the recently released high quality cameras.
