T-Mobile has gone live in all 50 states after a new partnership enabled 5G roaming for users in Anchorage, Alaska.
While this does not mean T-Mobile has blanket coverage in all the states, the company has at least some presence in each of the 50 states, which T-Mobile claims is the first telecom to do so. Most coverage is limited in the cities to certain areas, meaning it would depend on what part of a city a user resides in or visits to access 5G coverage.
Eventually, as more base stations are installed, more range extenders are implemented and additional antennas are distributed, coverage is expected to grow wider and serve more users.
T-Mobile said its coverage extends more than 1 million sq mi and includes nearly 6,000 cities and towns.
The agreement with GCI, a network in Alaska, launched 5G service in April and the roaming agreement followed just a month later. GCI expects to expand 5G coverage to additional cities including Juneau, Fairbanks and other fiber-served communities in the state.
