AT&T enables international 5G roaming in Japan

16 September 2020

AT&T has signed an international roaming agreement with Japanese mobile phone operator NTT DOCOMO to allow U.S. mobile customers to use 5G services in Japan.

Customers will be able to use the NTT DOCOMO network with a 5G roam-capable device, which is expected to soon become available through AT&T. Customers that are currently on the 5G wireless plan with AT&T in the U.S. will be able to access 5G in Japan.

The company said that while this agreement allows for those with 5G to still have access to next-generation wireless, those with LTE devices can still expect to receive roaming coverage when traveling.

Other companies, such as SK Telecom and Swisscom, have been expanding 5G roaming to enable South Korea and Switzerland to roam with 5G while people are visiting.
