Amazon to open robotics innovation hub, investing $40 million

Amazon is expanding further into Massachusetts with plans to build a robotics innovation hub and create 200 tech and advanced manufacturing jobs.

The facility, which is planned to open in 2021, will be located in Westborough, Massachusetts, and Amazon will invest more than $40 million in the site for both staff and services for the location. The facility will feature research and development labs, manufacturing space and serve as Amazon’s epicenter for robotics innovation along with the current site in North Reading, Massachusetts.

The 350,000 sq ft facility will create more than 4,000 full-time jobs with the intention to design, build, program and ship robots all under the same roof. The expansion will also allow Amazon to improve delivery speed of robots around the world, the company said.
