A next-generation smart beacon, co-designed by Blecon and Moko Smart, has been introduced to meet sensing and connectivity demands in the industrial and commercial sectors.
The companies launched the smart beacon at Sensors Converge 2025, which is taking place this week in Santa Clara, California.
Called L02S-BCN, the smart beacons are used to increase the security, context awareness and intelligence for asset tagging and basic broadcast uses. Specifically, smart beacons feature:
- Multi-sensor data logging
- Bidirectional communication via cloud network
- Secure device identity, authentication and encrypted data
- Integrated global time synchronization
- Embedded AI/machine learning
- Over-the-air updates for firmware
Connected to Blecon’s Bluetooth-to-cloud network, the smart beacon removes the need for fixed infrastructure or direct pairing. This allows users to deploy beacons in the field without manual configurations or gateways. It also syncs automatically logged data to the cloud, monitors assets as they move across environments and integrates with cloud platforms using developer APIs.
“Blecon’s Smart Beacons retain the easy-to-deploy form factor and long battery life that made Classic Beacons successful, but dramatically expand their utility,” said Nick Chen, principal engineer at Blecon. “They can continuously collect data offline, detect nearby Bluetooth devices to unlock insights based on proximity, process events locally using AI, and securely sync only useful information to the cloud. And thanks to OTA updates, they can get even smarter over time.”
The smart beacon includes:
- Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF54L system-on-chip
- Sensors for temperature, humidity, pressure and three-axis acceleration
- IP-67-rated enclosure
- CR2477 coin cell battery
- MOKO’s L02 platform
