Fujifilm has launched its artificial intelligence (AI) development initiative in the U.S. market. Fujifilm's AI
Fujifilm’s image recognition technology can read complex images. (Source: Fujifilm)development initiative will enhance its imaging and informatics healthcare Synapse portfolio. The announcement came Sunday at the 2017 Radiological Society of North America’s meeting in Chicago.
Synapse allows extremely large images and image series to be loaded directly into system memory. Synapse analysis then uses Image Intelligence, Fujifilm’s proprietary image recognition technology, to read the images.
AI is likely to transform medical imaging by providing higher quality services at lower costs. AI program can improve the analysis of imaging, for instance, leading to better treatment. Many radiologists today must review as many as 1,000 images for one scan. The work is time consuming and can be tedious. AI can function as a diagnostic aid to doctors, flagging specific images that a human should examine more thoroughly.
The program will be based in Raleigh, N.C., the global development headquarters for Fujifilm's Synapse portfolio, and will work in collaboration with a development team in Tokyo that will provide a wide range of image recognition technologies. It will also partner with its strategic customers in the U.S. market, in order to draw upon additional clinical insights and expertise in the field.
