Last November, Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz brand began a car sharing program in Munich, Germany that allowed private owners to rent out their cars to others who need a vehicle on a temporary basis.

The goal was to eventually expand the platform, called Croove, to other German cities and now the company has begun providing and renting vehicles in Germany’s capital of Berlin. Croove is available for all vehicles of all makes not just those sold by Daimler.

Using an app on a smartphone or through the Croove website, the car sharing platform allows people in Berlin to offer their cars to users as long as they meet specifications and price expectations—the vehicle cannot be more than 15 years old and must be in good condition.

Not tied to a rental store or company in fixed locations, users are given the exact model of the car requested. Mercedez-Benz has also made Croove available for Android users and now the app allows for the ability to manage vehicle information and manage bookings via a web browser. It is possible to collect the vehicle in person or pay extra for a pickup and delivery service. Keyless entry is possible and payment is made via the app.
