The futuristic Levitating Portable Speaker (model PJ9) from LG Electronics is catching stares at CES 2017. The wireless speaker hovers in place over its accompanying “Levitation Station”, delivering high-quality audio while prompting “how does it do that” queries from onlookers. If you haven’t already figured it out here’s the secret sauce: powerful electromagnets housed inside the Levitation Station allow the speaker to hover without being touched by any surface or wires when playing. The speaker is water resistant for indoor or outdoor use and features a battery that is said to offer 10 hours of play on a charge. When the charge runs low, the speaker slowly descends onto the base station to replenish the battery via wireless charging without intervention from the listener. The Bluetooth speaker can connect to two devices simultaneously.
The 360–degree omnidirectional speaker employs a turbine blade-inspired design and generates deep bass courtesy of a subwoofer embedded inside the Levitation Station. The PJ9 also features Dual Passive Radiator technology for mid-range tones and highs.
