Ultra-compact open-frame AC/DC converters come in a single inline package. Switching between 60 and 100 kHz, typical efficiency for these switched-mode power supplies is up to 80% with a wide input voltage range of 85 to 264 VAC or 70 to 400 VDC for high-voltage DC/DC systems. However, efficiency can drop as low as 63% for single output of 3.3 VDC for 3 W units, and 67% for 5 W converters. Depending on the series, the single-output voltages available include 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15 and 24 VDC. For some tough environments, the 3 W models offer a wide operating temperature range of -40° to +85° C, while the 5 W models provide a range of -25° to +85° C. Additionally all PBO models are designed to provide an input-to-output isolation of 3,000 VAC. Likewise, maximum ripple and noise for these converters is rated at 150 mVp-p.
The PBO series also meets safety standards as required by UL60950-1/EN 60950-1, and complies with EN55022 Class B limits for conducted and radiated emissions. In addition, the AC/DC converter models offer over-current and short-circuit protections. According to CUI, the PBO-3, PBO-3-B and PBO-5 series are available with prices starting at $5.85 per unit for 500 pieces through distribution.
