Two rival makers of the open-source ecosystem Arduino have settled their three-year disagreement and have signed a settlement agreement to form one new company that will be a single point of contact for distribution of Arduino products.
Arduino LLC and Arduino SRL have agreed to become one company under the moniker of Arduino Holding, and the new company is expected to be implemented by the end of this year. The companies also agreed to form a not-for-profit arm, called Arduino Foundation, that will be responsible for fostering the open-source movement by providing support for a variety of scholarships and community and developer initiatives.
Massimo Banzi, co-founder of Arduino LLC, says the agreement allows for a new course for Arduino in education, makers' markets and Internet of Things markets. “The Arduino Foundation will allow us to champion the core values of the Arduino community within the open-source ecosystem, and to make our commitment to open source stronger than ever,” Banzi says.
