Mobileye and Delphi Team Up to Develop Autonomous Driving Solution

23 August 2016

Computer vision house Mobileye and automotive technology company Delphi Automotive PLC are partnering to develop a complete SAE Level 4/5 autonomous, end-to-end production-ready vehicle.

Under the program, the automated vehicle solution will have the performance and functional safety required for integration into a number of vehicle platforms for a range of customers worldwide. The companies plan to demonstrate the platform at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with production slated to begin in 2019.

The SAE International standard for Level 4/5 automated vehicles calls for the driving mode-specific performance to be automated in all aspects, even if a human driver does not respond appropriately to intervene. The standard also presumes the vehicle will have a full-time automated driving system of all aspects of driving, on all roadways, and under all environmental conditions.

The automated driving solution will be based on technologies from both companies, including Mobileye’s EyeQ 4/5 system-on-chip with sensor signal processing, fusion, world view generation and Road Experience Management system. Delphi will bring its automated driving software algorithms from its Ottomatika acquisition that includes the path and motion planning features, and Delphi’s multi-domain controller with full camera, radar and LiDAR.

The goals of the partnership are to accelerate time to market for automated vehicles and for companies to adopt Level 4/5 automation without any need for huge capital investments, the companies say.
