After shutting down investment in Argo AI, Volkswagen is reportedly looking to Mobileye, the autonomous vehicle arm of Intel, for future technology.
The news comes after last week’s major announcement that Ford Motor Company and VW would be discontinuing any support or investment for Argo AI and would be pursuing other means of developing autonomous technology. This was after the companies invested billions of dollars in the startup to fast-track Level 4 self-driving capabilities.
Ford said it would instead pursue L2+/L3 automated driving instead and would be producing the technology internally.
Now, VW will work with Mobileye on autonomous vehicle technology, according to a report from Reuters. The two companies already work together on VW’s software arm Cariad. Presumably, the future deal would include hardware as well as software for future automated technology.
Just last week, Mobileye began trading publicly on the Nasdaq Global Select Market after completing its initial public offering (IPO).
