Mellanox Rolls Programmable Adapter With FPGA Acceleration

20 November 2015

Mellanox has announced the ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter, which enables performance and flexibility in modern data centers, public and private clouds, Web 2.0 infrastructures, telecommunications and high-performance computing infrastructures. The adapter provides the flexibility required to offload CPU utilization by migrating portions of data processing logic to an onboard Xilinx FPGA and simultaneously use the network controller’s hardware-based application accelerations, scalability and efficiency.

The adapter solution can be customized using an onboard Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA to create programmable application acceleration. The UltraScale device represents the equivalent of several million ASIC gates worth of capacity.

The ConnectX-4 Lx Programmable adapter can be used to accelerate applications such as deep-packet inspection, compression/decompression, high-frequency trading and more.

The adapter also provides hardware support for RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE), Ethernet stateless offload engines, Overlay Networks and NVIDIA GPUDirect technologies without dedicating FPGA resources for them.
