Xilinx Begins 16nm Virtex FPGA Shipments

01 February 2016

Xilinx Inc. has begun shipping its first Virtex UltraScale+ field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), what the company claims is the first high-end FinFET FPGA built using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp.’s (TSMC) 16FF+ process.

Xilinx says it is currently engaged with more than 100 customers on its UltraScale+ portfolio with design tools and has already shipped devices or boards to more than 60 customers. The Virtex FPGAs joins the Zynq and Kintex UltraScale+ FPGAs as part of Xilinx’s 16nm portfolio and build upon the company’s 20nm FPGAs.

The Virtex 16nm FPGAs are geared toward meeting the needs for next-generation data center, 400G and Terabit Wired Communications, test and measurement and aerospace and defense markets. The Virtex UltraScale+ devices are shipping now.
