Xilinx Begins Volume Production of 20nm FPGAs

23 December 2014

Xilinx Inc. has begun volume production of its 20nm Kintex UltraScale KU040 field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

Xilinx claims that it is the first company to deliver volume production for a first 20nm FPGA line. The Kintex UltraScale FPGAs are built on an ASIC-class architecture and are used in applications including 100G OTN, packet processing and traffic management, 8x8 mixed mode LTE and WCDMA radio, 8K/4K displays, Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), data centers and more.

Wouter Suverkropp, senior product line manager for Kintex FPGAs at Xilinx, said in a statement the achievement of volume production follows “months of design work by our customers.”

The KU040 FPGAs are available today and Xilinx also has development and evaluation boards for the devices on sale as well.
