A mobile air defense system capable of hunting and destroying aerial threats within seconds has been developed by the French defense and aerospace firm Thales.
The RapidStriker, which was recently introduced at the Eurosatory defense exhibition in France, combines sensors, automated fire control and multiple weapon options in a package designed to travel alongside frontline forces.

Beyond drones, the RapidStriker can also be used to protect against low-flying helicopters flying close to frontline forces. Further, RapidStriker offers operators an assortment of ways to engage a target. Specifically, the system pairs its sensors with automated fire control before the most appropriate effector for a specific mission is selected.
For instance, operators can deploy guided or unguided 68 mm and 70 mm rockets, small-caliber cannons or remotely operated munitions, all according to operational needs.
The team explained that RapidStriker is capable of identifying a threat in a matter of seconds of detection before maintaining a track and initiating an engagement sequence. This layer of automation reportedly lessens the burden on crews amid high-pressure situations.
RapidStriker is not only designed for counter-drone missions, it supports precision strikes against ground targets and offers saturation fire.
According to its developers, RapidStriker is designed to integrate with broader air defense networks, including Thales’ SkyDefender system, enabling shared data across multiple assets and providing commanders with a more comprehensive view of the battlefield.
