The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has released the Zigbee 4.0 connectivity standard as well as Suzi, a new Zigbee sub-GHz feature.
Both new standards will allow device makers to scale internet of things (IoT) applications with new connectivity options that are longer range, lower power consumption and even support mesh networks.
Zigbee 4.0
The new Zigbee release is designed for traditional Zigbee and smart energy devices to give them greater interoperability across universal networks. CSA said the release simplifies the certification processes and supports enhanced information exchange.
The CSA said Zigbee 4.0 will extend capabilities beyond the 2.4 GHz band and will introduce support for the European 800 MHz and North American 900 MHz PHY this provides increased:
- Signal strength
- Range
- Coverage
The new release is compatible with Zigbee 3.0 and smart energy so it will continue to support more than one billion Zigbee devices already deployed globally.
Suzi
Meanwhile, Suzi is a new standards-based wireless technology that extends the reach to IoT connectivity through long-range, sub-GHz mesh networking.
Suzi combines long-range performance, low performance consumption and multi-vendor interoperability for new applications for residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
The Suzi Certification Program is planned to open in the first half of 2026 and will allow manufacturers to begin certifying products for long-range and low-power mesh networking to the connected world.
