Smart home devices have been a ubiquitous part of consumers’ lives for the better part of the last five years starting with the release of the Amazon Alexa-enabled devices.

Ring has made strides in its doorbell and lighting products over these years to become one of the more powerful vendors in the market. So much so, that Amazon purchased the company to add to its own smart home options.

The Ring Smart LED lightbulb came out in early 2020 and immediately became a staple for smart homes to be able to control the lighting inside a home via a smartphone app or smart speaker. The device is simple but contains several electronic components.

The following is a partial deep dive into the Ring Smart LED lightbulb conducted by TechInsights.

  • Nordic Semiconductor’s ANT/Bluetooth system-on-chip
  • Semtech’s LoRa Transceiver

LED board

The LED board is the connector in the lightbulb between the power board and the main board. It also contains the 40 active LEDs that produce the light for the smart bulb.
