Streaming sticks have been around for more than 15 years and are still popular with consumers.

Not surprising, as quality in streaming and entertainment has reached 2K and 4K resolution format, consumers want this same type of quality in their streaming sticks. Luckily many of these devices have reached this resolution.

That includes the TiVo Stream 4K, which allows consumers to stream all types of content to televisions, computers and laptops. There is a voice control option through the remote control or control the device through traditional remote keys.

The following is a partial deep dive into the TiVo streaming media stick conducted by TechInsights.

Main board

The main board of the TiVo Stream 4K contains the main application processor that is a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 from Amlogic and 1 GB of Nanya DDR4 SDRAM memory. Other electronic components include:

• Silergy’s DC-DC converter
• Monolithic Power Systems’ 1-amp step-up DC-DC converter
• Samsung’s 8 GB MLC NAND flash and memory controller
• AWINIC’s OVP load switch
• Pericom Semiconductor’s supervisory circuit

Remote control board

The remote-control board is the heart of the voice controller and traditional remote keys of the TiVo Stream 4K stick. The board contains a Knowles MEMS microphone and a Universal Electronics’ multiprotocol controller.
