Energy harvesting Bluetooth LE 5.3 module unveiled

18 October 2023

A new Bluetooth low energy 5.3 module with integrated energy harvesting capabilities is now available from GlobalScale and Atmosic Technologies.

Called the GTI-ATM3330e, the module builds off previous devices developed by both companies but with the Arm Cortex-M33F microcontroller and with additional RAM and support for the 5.3 standard and energy harvesting.

The module supports four harvesting methods: photovoltaic; motion; thermal; and radio frequency. The power management unit garners energy from harvested sources and saves the excess to a storage element that is implemented in consumer designs. Additionally, the device supports other energy storage configurations to extend the life of standard batteries or rechargeable batteries. It can also operate battery-free with capacitor storage.

Other features include:

  • 4.2 volt input support
  • I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, PWM 31 GPIO support
  • Quad SPI support
  • 11-bit application ADC support
  • Two mono or one stereo PDM support
  • 8 x20 KSM support
  • Quadrature decoder support
  • Interactive debugging
