Global distributor Mouser Electronics Inc. is now carrying a portfolio of low-power and energy-harvesting wireless Bluetooth system-on-chips (SoCs) and evaluation kits from Atmosic Technologies.
The devices allow engineers to create connected devices that use a single battery for a product’s entire lifespan and sometimes can work without any batteries. Atmosic’s SoCs have a low power consumption but also can harvest energy from light, motion, thermal and radio frequency (RF) sources. These ICs support AirFuelRF wireless power specification.
AirFuelRF uses RF technology to allow multiple devices to be charged or powered at the same time and from the same distance.
Mouser will carry Atmosic’s evaluation kits, ATM2 and ATM3 series of SoCs and additional products to be introduced later this year. The ATM3 series is an ultra-low power Bluetooth LE with an integrated power management unit as well as intelligent energy harvesting sources to extend battery life or enable battery-free operation.
Part of the goal of the technology is to solve battery waste issues and help companies meet sustainability goals due to billions of batteries being tossed away every year for connected devices. If devices can be extended beyond current battery life or eliminate the battery altogether, it can reduce maintenance times and end cost to users as well as environmental benefits.
