Texas Instruments has introduced a family of Wi-Fi 6 semiconductors designed to enable a secure internet of things (IoT) connection with reliable radio frequency (RF) performance.

The SimpleLink ICs are priced affordably for applications that operate in high-density or high-temperature environments up to 105° C, TI said. The first of the devices will be Wi-Fi 6 only or Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.3 in a single IC.

When these devices are attached to a microcontroller or microprocessor, the secure connection for IoT can be used in industrial markets such as grid infrastructure, medical and building automation.

TI said the device provides greater Wi-Fi network efficiency and a stable connection across more than 230 access points with an operating temperature from -40° C to 105° C. Additionally, the devices connect IoT edge nodes directly to home or enterprise access points without additional equipment.

The Wi-Fi 6 companion devices also feature:

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technology
  • Basic service set (BSS) coloring
  • Support Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security features
  • WPA3 cryptographic technologies
  • Secure boot feature with firmware authentication

The SimpleLink devices also provide IoT flexibility with Wi-Fi 6, BLE 5.3, Thread, Zigbee 3.0 and Matter protocols for smart home compatibility.
