New 3D technology is being introduced at CES 2023 that will allow for 3D chatting, streaming and gaming without the need for any type of headset or glasses.
Leia Inc.’s Lightfield technology can be used for 3D chatting, 3D streaming and 3D gaming. The handheld device features integrated stereoscopic 3D cameras and is compatible with a full range of apps including Google Play.
The company’s LeiaChat is claimed to be the world’s first 3D chat that allows users to be fully present inside a communications platform that captures depth and nuances of others, something 2D video conferencing is limited to.
“We no longer have to settle for unnatural experiences like video chat on a flat screen,” said Cecilia Qvist, CEO of Leia. “As we continue to scale this immersive 3D experience across all screens — including mobile — we are working to help recreate the emotion of real world interactions on familiar communication devices.”
The company said it is working with Chinese telecom and IT vendor ZTE to bring its 3D Lightfield technology worldwide to new product lines. Leia said it will also offer its own handheld device in the U.S. market in the coming months.
